Sequence is a modern classic board game created by Doug Reuter in the 1970s. Reuter, a musician and inventor, combined elements of Solitaire and Poker to craft a game that offered a blend of strategy and luck. Initially self-published, Sequence’s popularity soared, leading to the formation of Jax Ltd. to produce and distribute the game more widely. With various editions and a loyal following, Sequence has become a cherished choice for family game nights, offering engaging gameplay for players of all ages.

 

Game Objective:

In the game of Sequence, the primary objective is to become the first player or team to form a specific number of sequences on the game board. A sequence is a continuous row of five of your own chips placed strategically on the board’s grid, which is adorned with playing cards. Players use a standard deck of playing cards, including two jokers, to determine where they can place their chips based on the card they draw. Special cards, like Jacks, allow for strategic moves such as removing an opponent’s chip or securing a desired spot. How to Play:

3. The objective is to create a sequence of five of your own chips either horizontally, vertically, or diagonally on the board. You can block your opponents and strategize with your partner (in team play) to achieve this  goal.

 

Special Cards:

• Jacks: A Jack card allows you to remove an opponent’s chip from the board.
• Two-Eyed Jacks (Black & Red): These Jacks are wild cards that can be used to place your chip on any open spot on the board.
• One-Eyed Jacks (Black & White): These Jacks are wild cards that can be used to remove an opponent’s chip from the board.

 

Winning:

The game continues until one player or team successfully completes the required number of sequences. In the standard version, the goal is usually to complete two sequences, but you can adjust this number to make the game longer or shorter as desired.

6. Hold on to Key Cards: Sometimes, holding onto specific cards can give you an advantage. For instance, if you have the Ace of Spades and the Ace of Hearts, you can potentially complete two sequences using a single card. Be patient and wait for the right moment to play them.
7. Bluffing: You can try a little bluffing by playing cards that don’t directly contribute to your sequences but make your opponents believe you are close to winning. This might divert their attention away from your actual game plan.
